Uric acid is a substance generated by the organism itself as a result of the breakdown of purines. However, the amount of this substance can increase in the body due to an increase in foods rich in purines.
Normally, the organism eliminates between 80% and 90% of the uric acid generated during the day. In other words, there is a balance between what is produced and what is expelled. If this balance is broken, it can lead to an accumulation of uric acid.

Fructose is a common sugar found in many products. Limit or avoid the following types of food:
- Fruit: You should only be consuming one serving of fruit at most per day. Never eat fruit as a meal, it should be a snack or the occasional only. Some fruits are better than others. Choose low sugar fruits such as berries, lemon, and lime. Stay away from dried fruit and fruit juices.
- Many sweets use fructose or high fructose corn syrup. Be sure to read the labels looking out for all forms of sugar since a high intake of sugar increases your risk for a range of health concerns like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes. Dehydration may be a risk factor for gout although this is not well proven in research. Drinking 1 1.5 litres of fluids a day is recommended for general health benefits. However if you are taking diuretics or have heart or kidney problems, talk to your doctor about the right amount of fluids for you to drink.
How Is High Uric Level Treated
If youre having a gout attack, medication can be used to reduce the inflammation, pain and swelling. You should drink plenty of fluids, but avoid alcohol and sweet soft drinks. Ice and elevation are helpful.
Kidney stones may eventually pass out of the body in urine. Drinking more fluid is important. Try to drink at least 64 ounces daily . Water is best.
Your doctor may also prescribe medications that help stones pass by relaxing the muscles in the ureter, the duct that urine passes through to get from the kidney to the bladder.
If the stone is too large to pass, blocks the flow of urine or causes an infection, it might be necessary to surgically remove the stone.
