Brown rice is moderately-high in purines, i.e. producing between 100-200 mg uric acid per 3.5 oz serving. However, the health benefits of brown rice outweigh its potential purine risk. And, in any case, you can reduce that risk by limiting consumption to one 3.5 oz serving per day.

Dont Be Scared Of Beans Legumes Vegetables

The most inconsistent recommendations are for beans, legumes and certain vegetables. No source indicated to avoid these food groups. However, many state they are high risk like some seafood.

From this particular purine table, beans, lentils and peanuts have far less purines than the other food groups mentioned previously. Therefore, they are not as high-risk for gout. Keep in mind, cured or dried food, such as beans, will have a higher purine concentration per weight because of shrinkage.

What Are The Symptoms Of Gout

Gout usually occurs in attacks. An attack typically develops quickly over a few hours. It usually causes severe pain in one joint. The base of the big toe is the most commonly affected joint. Walking can be very painful and even the weight of bedclothes can hurt.

However, any joint can be affected. Sometimes two or more joints are affected. Affected joints usually swell and the nearby skin may look red and inflamed. If left untreated, a gout attack may last several days but usually goes completely within 10 days. Less severe attacks can occur which may be mistaken at first for other forms of arthritis.
