I know that you like meat and you want to eat it every week. Luckily for you, there is an alternative. The best option to choose is good old chicken. You can consume duck meat as well.
The reason is that these two types of meat are lower in purines than turkey and therefore not harmful and wont trigger a gout attack. There are a few main things to consider.
Chicken skin should be avoided as much as you can. It is an unhealthy part of animal and something that has been considered as extremely dangerous in some countries.

All forms of alcoholic beverages have high-purine content. One needs to be particularly careful with beer. It has eight times more purines than wine and other alcoholic beverages.
Certain fishes and shellfish like mackerel, salmon, sardines, herring, trout, haddock, scallops, mussels, codfish and anchovies are very rich in purines. On the other hand, crab, lobster, oysters and shrimp contain moderately high purine content. Although rich in omega-3 fatty acid, seafood should be avoided with gout patients.
Meats, Organ Meats and Poultry
Meats like bacon, veal, venison, pheasant, squirrel and other game meats contain high purines. Organ meats such as beef kidney, brains and liver are also very high in purines and should be avoided. Beef, chicken, pork and ham contain moderately high levels of purine. Poultry such as goose, turkey, duck and other white meats contain lesser purines than the red meats but these meats need to be limited too.
Dairy products must also be avoided by gout sufferers. Milk, butter, cheeses and milk-based foods are rich in purines and should be blacklisted in a low-purine diet for people with gout.
Vegetables like asparagus, kidney beans, lima beans, dried peas, lentils, mushrooms and spinach are moderately high in purine content. These vegetables need to be restricted in the diet to reduce the occurrence of gout attacks.

Meat A Risk Factor For Gout
There is a wrong notion that meat can cause gout. No study can prove this fact. It could be a contributing factor why you have gout attacks, but it all depends on your consumption and other factors. For instance, in a study where 47,150 men were monitored for 12 years, with meat on their diet. After the study period, only 730 men were diagnosed to have gout.
Upon checking, the men who developed gout have one serving of meat in a day. Those who have two servings of meat have the risk of having gout by 41% than those who ate less than a meal in a day. Based on this study the increased risk of gout was manifested only to those who are consuming a vast amount of lamb, beef, and pork a day.
In the same study, the following meats were not included in the risk factor of gout salami, bacon, hamburgers, sausage, and hot dogs. The above findings were more relevant to men aged 40 years and above.
The men who participated in the study were not using natural treatments for gouts, or into anti-gout diets. Other factors affecting uric acid are pH levels, alkaline water drinking, consuming gout positive foods like celery and cherries, and vitamin and minerals intake.
Consume less pork and gout will be experienced less. But it does not necessarily mean that if you add extra meat serving a day, you will have gout attacks.
The Cause Of Gout Is More Than Just Diet
While diet is critical, dont overlook other important factors that affect gout. These include family history, sleep apnoea, and lack of physical exercise to name a few.
And as much as I prefer focusing on what you should eat to prevent health scares, there are just so many clear trigger foods for gout.
Its important to deal with these factors first and foremost.

The Link Between Gout And Turkey
1/3 of uric acid is based on what we eat. Our body transfers purines into uric acid and all foods come with purines. When we consume a high-purine food, we directly increase uric acid which causes a gout attack. Gout and turkey are connected in the same way.
This is the simple fact that applies to all the foods out there. Turkey is no different, obviously. When you consume it, the purines will spike and you will be at a higher risk.
If you cannot avoid turkey meat and you must have it, I recommend you only one small slice. It wont be the ideal meal for gout, but you will manage. Pair it with plenty of water just to try and keep as much purines away from the cardiovascular system as possible.

Gout and turkey are obviously linked in a bad way and there is plenty of research that clarifies and supports my facts here. In reality, it is one of those foods you must avoid and you must keep it as low as possible, period.

While there are no controlled studies or evidence on the effect of lifestyle changes on the incidence of gout, expert opinion is that positive changes in lifestyle can be beneficial to the management of gout. Being overweight is not recommended for gout suffers and the available evidence indicates that losing weight may helpful. Dietary modifications to achieve a healthy body weight are recommended, however the use of crash, high-protein and low-carbohydrate diets should be avoided. Slow and steady weight loss is ideal and support from a dietitian should be sought to help develop a sustainable and balanced weight loss plan. Rapid weight loss is not recommended as it can increase the amount of uric acid in the body leading to an increased chance of a gout attack.
Regular exercise such as swimming or walking is also recommended as it may help reduce the frequency of gout attacks. In addition, it may have a beneficial effect on associated co-morbidities such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and insulin resistance.
