How To Make Ginger And Turmeric Kombucha
All you need to successfully make this anti-inflammatory, gut-healing Ginger & Turmeric Kombucha is finished kombucha, fresh ginger root, fresh turmeric root, and glass, swing-top bottles.
First, use a funnel to transfer finished kombucha to swing-top bottles, leaving about 3 inches of headspace in each bottle.
To flavor with ginger and turmeric, add 1 tablespoon of each, finely chopped, to each bottle of finished kombucha.
Finally, close the bottle and let ferment in a room temperature spot for 1 to 3 days. I like the results produced after 2 days, personally.
This is known as a second ferment and will help produce fizzy bubbles that we love in our kombucha!

Worst Foods & Beverages For Gout

Variations On The Recipe
Now, what can you do to change things up? Ive tried many things with my DIY kombucha recipe, and not all were successful.
You can substitute sugars, although sugars with molasses in them are hard for a SCOBY to digest. This is one-time using white sugar is okay after all, its just food for the yeast to feed on. Pasteurized honey can also be used, but I have not tried this one. Let me know if you do! Dont use stevia, lactose, xylitol, or other non-caloric sweeteners. The sugars are necessary for the fermentation process.
I have also had success making kombucha with red wine. A mother in red wine was given to me, so I thought Id try it. I only had a small piece to start, so I put it in a small jar with some black tea, red wine, and sugar. Which was a big mistake! Next time I will use a bigger jar because that batch was so strong!!
I have also tried black and green tea, hibiscus flowers , fresh ginger, and turbinado sugar. It was just about the best thing Ive ever had. The fresh ginger is the kicker. Try other fruit juices such as carrot, mango, or grape, and also fresh fruits like strawberries and lemon. Ive also had one made from coconut water and lime.
My next experiment is a cold and flu blend. Black and green tea, pomegranate juice, blackberry, Usnea, and holy basil. Usnea is a lichen that grows wild and is well known for its anti-viral activity. Holy basil is good for the entire body and has a slight clove or cinnamon taste.
