How Can Losing Weight Help My Gout
Being overweight can increase your risk of gout because carrying extra weight slows down the removal of uric acid by your kidneys. Gout is caused by high uric acid levels in your blood as your level of uric acid rises, your risk of gout increases. If you are overweight, gradual weight loss can help to lower your uric acid levels and reduce your risk of gout attacks.
Weight loss is best achieved by eating a balanced diet and regular physical activity.
- Avoid fasting or crash diets, where you go without adequate food for long periods and lose weight rapidly. This type of dieting can increase uric acid levels and trigger a gout attack.
- Examples of foods to include in your diet are low-fat dairy, soy-based foods, vegetable sources of protein and foods high in vitamin C.
- Exercise moderately, but during an acute attack rest, elevate and cool affected joints.
Baking Soda Increases The Bloods Ph Levels
Baking soda has numerous applications even outside the kitchen. Baking soda is a known alkalizing agent. It increases the pH levels of your blood, and it makes it easier for your kidneys to flush uric acid. Moreover, your blood can hold more uric acid without crystals forming.
When your blood gets alkalized, the same happens with your urine. This means that more uric acid will be excreted.
- Mix the baking soda with the water.
- Stir until the baking soda dissolves completely.
- Drink the mixture several times a day.
- If you are over 60, dont drink it more than three times a day.
- Continue drinking the mixture up to two weeks.
Around 85 % of gout sufferers report that baking soda has a positive effect on their symptoms. But before you try this home remedy, talk with your doctor. Baking soda has side effects, including increased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Moreover, if you take prescribed medicine some of them might not interact well with baking soda.

Pain Relief Without Medicine
Use cold. If your pain isn’t too bad, try cold packs or compresses on the joint to lower inflammation and soothe the ache. Wrap ice in a thin towel and apply it to the joint for up to 20 minutes several times a day. Do not apply ice to your hands or feet if you have nerve problems from diabetes or other causes.
Rest the joint. It’s a good idea to rest it until the pain eases up. You probably won’t want to move it much anyway. If you can, raise the joint on a pillow or other soft object.
Drink water. When your body doesnât have enough water, your uric acid levels rise even higher. Stay hydrated to help keep those levels normal.
Watch what you eat and drink. Foods that are high in substances called purines, such as some seafood, organ meats like liver, and fatty foods, can raise the uric acid in your blood even more. So can fructose-sweetened drinks and alcohol — especially beer.
