What Juice Is Good For Gout

Celery To Reduce Inflammation

Is Cherry Juice Good for Gout?~Just Tart Cherry Juice for Gout Relief

Celery is also rich in several phytonutrients that combat inflammation, like:

  • Apigenin a highly active bioflavonoid that acts as a COX-2 inhibitor to halt inflammation and reduce gout pain.
  • Luteolin a flavonoid shown to prevent inflammation by inhibiting certain pathways in the central nervous system, thus helping prevent gout.

Pros And Cons Of Juice Cleanses

Standard juice cleanses call upon juice recipes that include things like tart cherry , cucumber juice, celery, pineapple, lemon water, ginger, and other ingredients. A gout-related recipe attempts to prevent recurrent gout attacks. It does this by decreasing uric acid or urate in your body. But what other benefits does juicing provide? They include:

  • A high concentration of vitamins and nutrients due to healthy ingredients
  • A quick and easy way to ingest fruits and vegetables
  • A decrease in total cholesterol
  • A stabilization of triglycerides in the body
  • An increase in body metabolism
  • A decrease in inflammation
  • A potential decrease in cardiovascular disease risk

That said, there are also many potential negatives of a juicing cleanse as well. These effects usually occur if you attempt a juice diet for longer than 3-11 days. Most juicing specialists will advise against a long-term juice diet because they understand that it may cause:

  • An unbalanced level of blood sugar that may be troubling
  • A potential for inadequate stool size, including constipation or diarrhea
  • A lower level of protein and fiber intake in your diet
  • A lack of medical evidence showing that juicing leads to detoxification

Choose A Diet You Can Live With

If you are overweight, losing weight can protect you from gout flare-ups. However, losing weight fast can do more harm than good for gout, as rapid weight loss can raise uric acid levels in your bloodstream. Avoid fad diets and “crash” diets. Consider consulting a dietician, who can help you choose a diet plan that works for you.

Soft Drinks And Gout Risk

Several studies have found an increased gout risk from sugar-sweetened drinks. This link has been found in both men and women. One large study found that just one sugar-sweetened drink per day doubled a woman’s risk of developing gout compared with women who had less than one sugar-sweetened drink per month. “Studies show that sugar-sweetened drinks and fruit juices are associated with an increased incidence of gout attacks. Interestingly, these studies show that diet soda intake is not related to increased frequency of gout attacks,” says Sloane.

Worst Foods & Beverages For Gout

  • At the top of the list of what to avoid is booze. Beer and liquor readily convert to uric acid and they slow down its elimination. Studies have shown mixed results about whether wine is OK in moderation.
  • Drinking sugary beverages, such as sodas sweetened with high fructose corn syrup, fruit juices or other sugar-containing drinks, is associated with gout. Notable exception: cherries, especially tart cherries, may be beneficial for gout.
  • Go light on red meats, particularly organ meats like liver, tongue and sweetbreads, which are all high in purines. Also avoid or minimize the amount of bacon, venison and veal you eat.
  • Maybe surprising: Turkey and goose are very high in purines. Chicken and duck are better bets.
  • Some seafoods also are high in purines, including anchovies, sardines, mussels, scallops, crabs, lobsters, oysters and shrimp.
  • Some vegetables are on the watch list, too: Consider cutting back on mushrooms, asparagus and spinach but veggies of any kind are much less likely to trigger a gout flare than alcohol or organ meats.

    Apple Juice For Prevention

Apples have a reputation for resolving and preventing gout attacks, although no scientific studies support such claims. Fresh, raw apples are a good source of malic acid, which is thought to neutralize uric acid and prevent the precipitation of crystals, according to the book Human Biochemistry.” Apples also contain vitamin C, which strengthens and repairs collagen-rich connective tissues surrounding joints and minimizes the damage done by the sharp uric acid crystals. As such, fresh squeezed apple juice may be worth trying to combat gout attacks. Apple cider vinegar is an even richer source of malic and acetic acids, which can reduce the pain of inflamed joints by dissolving uric acid crystals.

While juice cleanses may not be suitable for everyone, many people may find gout relief using various juicing recipes. The options available will vary based on your needs and other factors. We’ve researched a few different options and found a few that make the most sense. Make sure to consider Epsom salt as a joint-soaking option while you wait for these juices to help minimize your uric acid.

For example, squeezing pineapple into a delicious juice helps to produce an enzyme known as bromelain. This substance will reduce inflammation and minimize your uric acid buildup. The juice you create can be drawn directly from a pineapple or purchased from a store. The best results likely come when fresh-squeezed, as you won’t have as many additives to its structure.

Ginger is also a powerful juicing option for gout, as it can provide a healthy mixture of nutrients. Slice some ginger, boil it in hot water, and mix with honey to get its benefits. It will help to minimize inflammation, cut back on gout flareups, and provide you with the long-lasting relief that you need.

And many experts state that cherries are perfect for managing gout pain and gout symptoms, with cherry juice being especially effective. This is because they contain a high level of anthocyanin. Do Cherries Reduce Gout Pain

Cherry contains anthocyanin, a flavonoid that is recognized to slow down or prevent inflammation. The pain caused gout is a result of the inflammation from the buildup or uric acid crystals. Thanks to cherry, the inflammation process can be slowed down or prevented, resulting in less risk for pain from gout or providing relief from current inflammation.

Why Lemon Juice May Be Helpful

Lemon juice may help balance uric acid levels because it helps make the body more alkaline. This means it slightly raises the pH level of blood and other fluids. Lemon juice also makes your urine more alkaline.

According to a study published in the British Medical Journal, this happens because drinking lemon juice causes your body to release more calcium carbonate. The calcium mineral bonds to uric acid and breaks it down to water and other compounds. This makes your blood less acidic and lowers uric acid levels in the body.

    Can It Cause An Attack

Reduce Uric Acid Crystalization With This Juice To Stop ...

While theres no current evidence in connection to gout, research has examined whether cranberry juice may be helpful or harmful when it comes to other diseases or conditions that involve high uric acid levels.

For example, higher uric acid levels can contribute to the development of a certain type of kidney stone, the uric acid stone.

A 2019 study found that people who took cranberry supplements, with and without vitamin C added, had higher levels of oxalate in their urine. Oxalate is a chemical that is a by-product of your bodys metabolism, and it leaves your body through your urine. When combined with calcium, that oxalate can lead to the development of kidney stones.

However, the study is limited, with a small sample size of only 15 participants.

A 2005 study also found that cranberry juice seemed to increase the risk of calcium oxalate stones and uric acid stones, although it did seem to decrease the risk of the formation of another type of stone called a brushite stone. This study was also relatively small, with 24 participants.

So, its possible that drinking cranberry juice could lead to higher levels of uric acid, which, in turn, might lead to the development of the crystals in the joints that cause painful gout flares. More research is needed to confirm that call.

To avoid adding unnecessary calories and sugar to your diet, choose unsweetened cranberry juice.

Start Your Day With Lemon Water

Make it a daily habit to consume lemon juice first thing in the morning on an empty stomach.

The simplest way to take lemon juice to help with gout is to squeeze the juice of one or two lemons into a glass of water. The water can be either hot or cold, depending on your preference.

Not only will the lemon juice help to neutralize any uric acid in your system, the water will help to flush excess waste from your kidneys and get your body ready and working for the day.

Taking the lemon juice and water on an empty stomach also protects your stomach from potential foods which may be high in purines.
